anyone in or around Seneca, SC to help a friend out on a stuck brake caliper on a Volvo v70? He is out on a road trip from Maine to Nola and the thing seized up and is smoking. Space, a BFH or some guidance is all I ask

I am going to guide him through the delicate process of smacking the fucking thing with a hammer and pinching the hose with vice grips to get him down to NOLA where it can hit a shop. Delicately of course

My old Focus did the same to me, and after a few manly power-swings with the tyre iron it did come un-stuck. Pinching the hose though.... the V70 is a heavy car to have uneven braking up front.

In my experience, that usually happens when the pads are worn significantly and the lube on the pins is gone. Can't help your friend except to say he should have looked at his brakes before the trip. Best of luck to him.

yeah he stopped and it was unstuck. I searched high and low for a new caliper for him where he was and nada to be found. Seems like it lasted the night driving too

I agree, he did know they had to be changed but I had him in a tizzy about his timing belt and he spaced it
